Newhall Surgery Proposes New State-of-the-Art Building to Enhance Healthcare Services in Drakelow, South Derbyshire

New Facility to Address Growing Healthcare Needs and Strengthen Community Care

Newhall Surgery is excited to announce plans for a new state-of-the-art branch site in Drakelow, South Derbyshire, which will serve as a comprehensive healthcare hub for the local community and surrounding areas. The proposed facility is set to significantly expand access to high-quality medical services and provide a modern, patient-centred environment that promotes well-being and health innovation.

Expanding Access to Quality Healthcare

The new building will accommodate a wide range of healthcare services under one roof, allowing patients to receive coordinated care in two locations, one in current Newhall Surgery premises and one in new premises at Drakelow. Services planned for the new facility include:

Our Practice Mission Statement is “For Excellent Individual Care At All Stages of Life” and the addition of a new branch site will serve as a vital resource for the people of Drakelow and the surrounding areas in South Derbyshire continuing with the expansion and growth of the community and the services we will continue to supply. By investing in this modern facility, we are ensuring that our community has access to cutting-edge medical services, while also fostering a space for patient comfort, convenience, and holistic care.

Our new Healthcare Centre is designed to meet the latest standards in medical technology and sustainability, the proposed building will feature eco-friendly design elements such as energy-efficient systems, and green spaces that promote both environmental responsibility and patient well-being. The building’s innovative design will also allow for seamless integration of telemedicine services, ensuring that patients have flexible care options in person and remotely.

Community-Centred Development

The proposed development has been carefully planned to respond to the growing healthcare needs of Drakelow and the surrounding areas, offering a facility that can accommodate both the current population and future growth. The building’s location will be easily accessible, with ample parking, public transportation links, and provisions for disabled access.

In addition, Newhall Surgery is working closely with local community leaders, health professionals and residents to ensure the new building reflects the needs and preferences of the community.

Next Steps

Pending necessary approvals, construction is expected to begin in 2026, with completion targeted for June 2028. Once complete, the GP Practice will create new jobs in the community, including roles for doctors, nurses, administrative staff and support workers.

Community Engagement and Consultation

Newhall Surgery will continue to update Newhall and Drakelow patients of developments going forward. Stakeholders and other interested parties will also be involved in the development and consultation process, a Frequently Asked Questions information sheet will be available plus further information regarding the build will be available once finalised and approved. About Newhall Surgery

Newhall Surgery currently has a patient population of around 11,000 patients with a steady increase of numbers. The Newhall Premises will continue to be expanded to cater for the growth in patient numbers awaiting the completion of the new Drakelow premises. This will involve the addition of further consulting rooms, additional services being offered and the employment of further clinical and non-clinical staff to meet the needs of our patients both existing and new. The new GP Practice will be looking to provide General Medical Services within the next 5 years for an additional 5,000 patients and within the next 10 years a possible additional 10,000 patients overall, this is to ensure provision for the increasing numbers of new homes being built within the current catchment area/boundary.
